Please go to the
www.scifoundation.org
site and click on "Education" which will take you to the AWLS site.
Click on "Teacher Application" and/or "Student" (they are
different). The application can be downloaded and mailed to me at
my home address (above). One application per person. The June
12-19 camp has two (national) grants available, however if these
dates do not work out for your leaders we (the local SCI chapter)
will pay their way for which ever camp they can attend. They do not
have to go to the same camp. There is only one camp for students
however. We cover all costs (transportation and lodging). Food is
included in the camp. Basically your people just have to be willing
to participate. Please let me know if I can answer any additional
questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Injured or young birds of prey are brought to the center for medical
attention. The birds receive medical attention from local
Veterinarians who donate their services and medication to the
raptors and the Raptor House Rehabilitation Center. The birds are
then put in designated flight pens for it’s species for exercise and
recuperation. Once ready for release, they are released in the same
location found or a designated location from the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Raptor House
Rehabilitation Center is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization,
donations to the Raptor House Rehabilitation Center are a
tax-deductible expense. Since the relocation of the Raptor
House Rehabilitation Center, we are in need of flight pens for the
species, and dimensions listed. If you are interested in building a
flight pen to help the Raptor House Rehabilitation Center and our
local birds of prey. Contact: - Marsha Flamm, President -

Volunteers are being sought for a series of Saturday cleanups of
Downtown Yakima and surrounding neighborhoods starting April 1
and running to April 22. Organized by the city of Yakima
and the Chamber of Commerce, the effort will include painting
over grafiti, picking up trash, and cleaning yards. Each clean
up starts at 8:30 am at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot, 10
N Ninth Street and ends at noon. The groups will kickoff
the cleanups with a broom parade April 1, where participants
will walk and sweep Yakima Avenue from Naches avenue to Third
street. They will conclude on April 22 with a volunteer
cookout. ============
We’ve just been
handed a good turn project opportunity that’s eligible for Good Turn
for America. Northwest Harvest is seeking Scouts to help collect
food donations at several stores throughout the Yakima area,
Saturday, April 21st. We’re trying to fill 2-hour shifts
for at least four stores that day. If your pack or troop is in need
of a Good Turn for America project, or if you have some boys who
need an approved good turn for advancement please contact either me
at 509-453-4795 or Mary Reif with Northwest Harvest, 453-4107. I’ll
also be calling individual unit leaders. This is a project that can
give scouts throughout the Skookum District some great publicity.

Mark your
calendars for June 16th. In our efforts to get as
many scouts in uniform as possible at parades and community
service events, we’ve reserved a spot in the Union Gap Old Town
Days Parade. Please plan to have your pack, troop, team or crew
take part, if possible. The parade forms near the Union Gap
library on South 1st Street. All participants are
asked to line up from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Judging is at 9 a.m. The
parade start is 10 a.m. The distance is approximately one
mile. We’ll simply be marching (unless you have a float) and
are not planning to distribute any materials or candy, etc. In
addition to the parade, your boys will be able to come for a
biscuits and gravy breakfast at the fire hall. They’ll also be
able to stick around and enjoy the carnival and other activities
– including a dog Frisbee toss, three-legged races, tug of war,
dunk tank, “Union Gap Idol” singing contest, face painting.
Most events are free, except carnival rides, and food and craft
items. Again, please plan to make it, if possible. Wouldn’t it
be great if we could show off all of our youths in uniform.
