Tell Us About Your Service Project
Data Collection - Initial Set-Up

This Web site gives you an overview of the initiative, project ideas, news stories about Good Turns that have been conducted, and a data collection site where units can tell us about their service projects (highlighted in yellow on the left of the screen).

So that we can better tell the story of the service provided through Scouting, we are asking units across America to report any service project in which their den, pack, patrol, troop, team, or crew participates. No service project is too big or too small to report. To report the unit’s service project, the person designated by the unit should go to the Good Turn Web site and click on "Tell Us About Your Service Project."

Before the service project can be reported, the unit designee has to register on the site. To get to the registration page, you just need to click on "Create a User Name and Password."

By the way, instructions for using the Web site can be found by clicking on the "Help" button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

To register on the site, you must have the unit ID and unit number provided by your council. The unit ID can be anywhere from five to 12 digits long. Your unit number may also be different than the unit number you wear on your sleeve, so be sure that you use the unit number given (this should be a four-digit number). Next you will fill in your first, middle (can be an initial), and last name, your address including city, state, and zip code, and your e-mail address. Your e-mail address is very important, because if you ever forget your password it can be e-mailed back to you.

Then you will make up a user name. The user name should be something that you can easily remember. (I like to use the word "troop" and then my troop number because it’s easy to remember.) This is a piece of information only you will have. If you forget your username, the council cannot provide it for you, so you will need to reregister on the site. That is why it is important that you use something that you can remember.

You also need to make up a password; this can also be anything that you can easily remember – but if you do forget, this can be sent to you via e-mail if you have listed your e-mail address. Once you have filled the registration in, you just hit Register, and it will either send you to the welcome page or tell you what information you still need to fill out to complete the registration.

The welcome page shows your name at the top with your unit number and council. It will also show when the last project was reported for your unit. On this page, you can change your profile if your address or e-mail address changes; you can change your password if you have your unit ID that you used to register. You can also view the details of previously reported projects from this page.

To enter a service project for your unit, you would click on the blue words. If you want to report an Eagle Scout service project, you can also do that on this site.

Let’s look at the information you will need to report a service project and how to complete reporting before I show you any of the other features.
